Creativity Thursday: Finding Time to Create

Creativity Thursday: Finding Time to Create

Posted on May 15, 2014August 24, 2016 by trinitychristianlifecoaching

Life is busy and often it is difficult to find time to create.  This can especially be true when your craft is a hobby, but even professionals sometimes run into these road blocks.      fill in pieces to create

So what are some things you can do to dedicate time to your craft:

Book time with yourself—write in your day planner when you are going to create and stick to the plan.  Michael Hyatt says that when people ask him to do something he just says, “I have plans,” when he’s scheduled time to create.

Set up a dedicated space—find an area to setup just for your craft.  Whether this is a corner, a room, a linen closet, a space in the garage or somewhere else set one area aside just for creating.

creatingCreate even when you don’t feel like it—for me this is one of the most difficult.  I want to feel inspired, but I am slowly learning to push through and work even when I don’t feel like it.  Often once I get started those creative juices will begin turning.

Give up something else to create—do you spend too much time watching TV or in other pursuits?  Can you give up a TV show in order to spend time creating?

Get up Early or Stay up Late to Create—can you spare an extra hour each day.  Maybe get up an hour early or if you’re a night owl, stay up an hour later, in order to dedicate time to your craft.  This isn’t always easy and you have to want it bad enough, but if you’re determined and persistent in your endeavor {especially if you hope to one day turn the hobby into a profession} than you may need to make the sacrifice.

What are some ways that you’ve found to create?

Hymn Story: In the Cross of Christ I Glory

Hymn Story: In the Cross of Christ I Glory

“In the Cross of Christ I Glory” was written by Sir John Bowring. He was born in 1792 in Exeter, England and a gifted linguist mastering thirteen languages. In 1854, he was knighted by Queen Victoria. He helped Great Britain develop relationships with a number of countries and served in Parliament for two terms. Even in retirement he remained highly […]

Song Story: Thank You Lord For Your Many Blessings On Me

Song Story: Thank You Lord For Your Many Blessings On Me

I was able to find very little about this song, Thank You Lord For your Many Blessings on Me, other than it was written and performed by Jeff and Sheri Easter. The message is so beautiful, I decided to share it anyway.  It’s a great reminder to be thankful for our many blessings.

Hymn Story: Jesus, Lover of My Soul

Hymn Story: Jesus, Lover of My Soul

“Jesus, Lover of My Soul” was written by the prolific hymn writer Charles Wesley. He wrote the hymn within months of his 1738 conversion and titled the piece “In Temptation”.  It was first published as a poem in 1740. Not until nine years after Wesley’s death was a tune added to the poem. Yet, it has become one of his […]

Hymn Story: Jesus Saves

Hymn Story: Jesus Saves

“Jesus Saves” is often known with its opening line “we have heard the joyful sound”. The hymn was written by Priscilla J. Owens. She was born on July 21, 1829 and lived in Baltimore, where she worked in the public-school sector. Most of her hymns were written for children’s services with many of her works appearing in the Methodist Protestant […]

Hymn Story: There is a Balm in Gilead

“There Is A Balm in Gilead” is a traditional spiritual. While the date of composition is unknown, the song dates back to at least the 19th Century. A version of the refrain can be found in Washington Glass’s 1854 hymn “The Sinner’s Cure”. A “balm in Gilead” is a reference from the Old Testament taken from Jeremiah 8:22.
