Creativity Thursday: Finding Time to Create

Creativity Thursday: Finding Time to Create

Posted on May 15, 2014August 24, 2016 by trinitychristianlifecoaching

Life is busy and often it is difficult to find time to create.  This can especially be true when your craft is a hobby, but even professionals sometimes run into these road blocks.      fill in pieces to create

So what are some things you can do to dedicate time to your craft:

Book time with yourself—write in your day planner when you are going to create and stick to the plan.  Michael Hyatt says that when people ask him to do something he just says, “I have plans,” when he’s scheduled time to create.

Set up a dedicated space—find an area to setup just for your craft.  Whether this is a corner, a room, a linen closet, a space in the garage or somewhere else set one area aside just for creating.

creatingCreate even when you don’t feel like it—for me this is one of the most difficult.  I want to feel inspired, but I am slowly learning to push through and work even when I don’t feel like it.  Often once I get started those creative juices will begin turning.

Give up something else to create—do you spend too much time watching TV or in other pursuits?  Can you give up a TV show in order to spend time creating?

Get up Early or Stay up Late to Create—can you spare an extra hour each day.  Maybe get up an hour early or if you’re a night owl, stay up an hour later, in order to dedicate time to your craft.  This isn’t always easy and you have to want it bad enough, but if you’re determined and persistent in your endeavor {especially if you hope to one day turn the hobby into a profession} than you may need to make the sacrifice.

What are some ways that you’ve found to create?

Hymn Story: Ivory Palaces

Hymn Story: Ivory Palaces

Famous evangelist Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman preached at Montreat (Presbyterian conference grounds) in Western, NC in the summer of 1915. He spoke on Psalm 45 and referenced a book he’d written in 1893 Ivory Palaces of the King. Chapman believed the hymn spoke of the relationship of Christ (the bridegroom) to his bride (the church). In the congregation that day […]

In celebration of Memorial Day tomorrow, I thought I’d share this song (Color Me America) by Dolly Parton from her 2003 album For God and Country.
